Today is a sad day for the Kpop community.
The lead vocalist of the popular Kpop band SHINee’s Jonghyun revealed to have passed away earlier today.
Earlier reports by police confirmed that the idol has passed away.
The police suspect that the idol has died of apparent suicide but they’re currently investigating the matter.
Police responded to Jonghyun’s elder sister call when she filed a report of disappearance for her younger brother, the police arrived at a residence at approximately 6:45 p.m. KST to find the idol’s unconscious.
The emergency staff tried to perform CPR while the idol was being rushed to the hospital, the emergency staff and doctors attempt to revive the idol were to no avail, the idol was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
His sister revealed to police that he sent a series of alarming messages such as “It has been really hard. Let me go. Tell me I did well. This is my last goodbye.” His sister feared for his life and was afraid he’d attempt to kill himself.
The police found traces of burned coal, which led them to suspect that the idol tried to kill himself, despite that the police is currently investigating to find the exact cause of death.
Later, SM Entertainment released a statement confirming the news, they said,
“SHINee member Jonghyun has suddenly left our side.
The company went on to say that the entire staff and family member are currently grieving for the sudden and shocking loss of an amazing singer.
Jonghyun was the best artist who loved music and always showed his best on stage.
We’re deeply saddened to rely the sad news to the fans who have generously given love to Jonghyun.
We would like to ask you to refrain from rumors or speculative reports so that the bereaved family can grieve in peace for the death of their son.
Depending on the wishes of the families, the funeral will be held as quietly as possible with the attendance by his family members and colleagues.”
