YG Entertainment head Yang Hyun Suk, has returned with happy news to fans. He announced that the agency is debuting a new boy group the same method like their senior groups BIGBANG, WINNER and iKON.

He revealed so in an announcement to the blog of YG Life on October 29, it was in the form of Q & A.

He revealed that the program title will be “YG’s Jewelry Box.” He explained that it’s a negative term used by fans who complain that once YG artists conclude promotions, no one hears back from them as if they were locked in a box of jewels. He added,

“Its also negative language used by media.”

He will reveal every single YG male trainee who hasn’t been revealed yet and monitors them to select whoever is fit to debut. There will be a total of 29 trainees and most of them range from 14-19 years old, he added,

“Since the number of participants is much higher than when BIGBANG, WINNER, and iKON were selected, the competition is higher than ever.”

Regarding the exact selection criteria, he explained,

“The criteria for selection will be similar to BLACKPINK’s. You must be skilled and we plan on selecting and focusing on talents who have star potential as well as charm.

We initially started with the expected number of 5 members but we’ll be flexible and see how the program progress.”

He also revealed that filming has already started and the program is set to premiere on November 16. The show will air through V Live, YouTube and they are also discussing the possibility of airing it on TV as well.

Yang Hyun Suk then assured fans that he won’t be doing anything similar to MIXNINE or be a judge on any program, he said,

“I am planning to concentrate on YG’s business from now on.”
