IU and Yeo Jin Goo will be the leads of tvN’s upcoming drama “Hotel Del Luna.”

The drama has been the center of attention for a while now, sister writers Hong Jung Eun and Hong Mi Ran will be working on the drama, it had been previously revealed that IU and Yeo Jin Goo were both offered lead roles, they have now confirmed their participation in the drama.

“Hotel Del Luna” tells the story of a mysterious hotel in downtown Seoul where ghosts wander. IU is taking on the role of Jang Man Wol the grumpy greedy character that committed a great sin and is being punished for it. Yeo Jin Goo is playing the role of the elite perfectionist hotelier who looks cold on the outside but has a tender heart.

The hong sisters have written many dramas across the years with mostly recently tvN’s “Hwayugi.” The drama will be directed by Oh Choong Hwan who worked on “Doctors” and “While You Were Sleeping,”

The drama doesn’t have a set air date yet but it will air in the summer of 2019.

My Thoughts

Hong sisters surely love their ghost stories. I am conflicted about the casting choice because I feel that Yeo Jin Goo doesn’t suit IU well, he still feels like a teenager transitioning into adulthood.

I am also worried about the plotline, we all know the fiasco around “Hwayugi” filming where a staff member got hurt, I was furious back then. It seems that this story will also require CGI; I just hope they film a lot ahead of time and not press production staff to work too much and cause more accidents that ruins people’s lives forever.

Hong sisters really love perfectionist rich rude male leads; this is almost the description of all their male leads in dramas they previously wrote. I would love for them to try and write different male characters.

Hong sisters dramas can be fun or boring, their dramas are so-so, they’re either hits or misses. In my opinion, Hong sisters craft great interesting characters that sometimes overpower the script idea itself, meaning that the characters are far more interesting than the actual storyline and that can become a problem.

For now I choose to remain hopeful because IU and Yeo Jin Goo choose dramas with great plot lines, they choose interesting projects.

IU 2018 drama “My Ahjussi” was personally my favorite kdrama of 2018; it was an amazing sophisticated story. Yeo Jin Goo has been doing great, I am kinda sad he picked an obviously older role but I also believe he did that to avoid being typecast in dramas. I believe he’s trying to diversify his portfolio and doesn’t want to stick to playing the high school or fresh uni student.

Fighting!
