A Woman In Her 30s Will Serve 8 Months In Jail After Defaming Shin Se Kyung
A woman in her 30s has been sentenced to prison for posting hundreds of malicious comments targeting actress Shin Se Kyung.
According to legal sources, the Seoul Eastern District Court’s Criminal Division 3 sentenced 35-year-old Kim to 8 months in prison on July 2 on charges of intimidation and defamation. Prosecutors had previously requested a 2-year sentence.
Kim was accused of posting over 450 malicious posts about Shin Se Kyung on DC Inside between June and August of last year. The posts included sexually explicit insults, body shaming, and even derogatory remarks about the actress’s family.
The court stated, “Kim wrote numerous insulting and threatening posts about the victim, who is a well-known celebrity, without any particular reason. The victim has suffered significant emotional distress and is pleading for strict punishment.”
However, the judge explained the sentencing by noting, “It appears that Kim did not actually intend to carry out any harm.”
During the trial, Kim admitted to all charges. Her legal representative appealed for leniency, saying, “The defendant, who has been living in seclusion, hopes to return to society and is currently working part-time 14 hours a week.”
