"I Don't Want Her To Just Become Someone's Wife": Famous Actor Explains Why He Doesn't Mention His Wife Much

“I hope she gets to live under her own name. If I keep talking about her, doesn’t she just become ‘someone’s wife’? I feel bad about that, so I think that’s why I hold back more.”

That’s how actor So Ji Sub explained why he rarely talks about his wife, former announcer Jo Eun Jung.

At an interview held at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 29th to mark the finale of the SBS drama “Agent Kim Reactivated,” So Ji Sub was asked about his wife’s reaction to the show. He shared, “First, she told me I worked hard since there was a lot of tough filming. She said it was fun. She also told me, ‘A lot of people around me have been talking about it.'”

So Ji Sub, who married Jo Eun Jung — 17 years his junior — in 2020, has always been careful when it comes to mentioning her, for the reason quoted above.

He also shared his distinct philosophy on relationships. With “Agent Kim Reactivated” recently generating buzz, staff members who worked with So Ji Sub took to social media to share heartwarming stories about his consideration for others. Asked about this, he laughed it off, saying, “Honestly, I don’t really remember. I wasn’t trying to create ‘heartwarming stories’ on purpose.”

He added, “Still, I do try to live that way. I’m not sure about being a good actor, but the older I get, the more I want to be a good person. So I put more effort into that part. After nearly 30 years as an actor, each project has become more precious, and I find myself really affected by even a single achievement. So I think I’ve become more grateful for everything. With that mindset, even though I’m not religious, I’ve been saying a daily prayer of gratitude for the past few years.”

“Agent Kim Reactivated,” which wrapped on the 25th, told the story of a father and former special agent fighting a massive force to get his missing daughter back. So Ji Sub played the father, Agent Kim, who picks up a gun again for his daughter. The drama drew major popularity, recording a peak viewership rating of 23%.
