Actor Ji Sung To Skip Interviews Following The Conclusion Of “Connection” Despite Its Massive Success, Here Is Why
The behind-the-scenes story of the drama “Connection” that actor Ji Sung was supposed to share directly will not be heard. The final interview for the SBS Friday-Saturday drama “Connection” has been ultimately canceled!
It is even more regrettable as Ji Sung’s overwhelming performance as a character addicted to drugs, the first of its kind since his debut, has been mentioned as a strong candidate for this year’s prestigious award.
The drama “Connection,” which is ending on the 6th of July, is a suspenseful investigation drama that reveals the story of a corrupt connection that lasted for 20 years, starting with detective Jang Jae-kyung (played by Ji Sung), an ace in the narcotics team, who is forcibly addicted to drugs by someone. Ji Sung took on his first drug addiction role through this work.
Ji Sung’s comeback drama on terrestrial TV after five years, “Connection,” succeeded in surpassing a rating of 11.1% in just 10 episodes, overcoming the slump of its previous work. This is the highest rating among SBS dramas aired this year. The drama has received praise as a masterpiece of mystery and suspense due to the flawless acting skills of actors such as Ji Sung, Lee Mi Do, and Kwon Yool, the solid storyline, and the tense atmosphere. According to a survey by Good Data Corporation, an online competitiveness analysis institution for K-contents, it also ranked first in terms of buzz for two consecutive weeks.

The main contributor to the success of “Connection” is undoubtedly Ji Sung. He lost 15kg in just two months for the role of a detective addicted to drugs and gave his all during filming, to the point of hyperventilating. This was all captured on screen. Ji Sung firmly anchored the center of the drama with his chilling performance from the first episode. He portrayed the character’s obsession with the case without any comedic elements and delicately depicted the character’s transformation, who suffers from the aftereffects of the drugs.
As a result, Ji Sung is already being mentioned as a strong contender for the “2024 SBS Acting Awards.” If he receives the award this year, it will be his second trophy from SBS after “Defendant” in 2017, seven years later.
Usually, interviews are conducted after a drama ends if it is successful. Therefore, there is high interest in whether the main cast of “Connection” will have interviews. However, Ji Sung has decided not to conduct interviews despite his popularity and buzz.

There is a reason why Ji Sung cannot do interviews. Currently, Ji Sung is residing in the United States, not Korea. According to sources, Ji Sung is fully dedicated to his children’s education in New York. Ji Sung married Lee Bo Young in September of 2013 and they have a daughter born in 2015 and a son born in 2019. Their daughter and son are currently 10 and 6 years old, respectively, in Korean age. Both Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young are active actor couples, so it has been revealed that they take turns between drama filming and parenting. Now that the drama filming is over, Ji Sung is dedicated to parenting in New York.
Since the movie “The Soul-Mate” in 2018, Ji Sung has not conducted media interviews. There has been no drama-ending interview since “Kill Me, Heal Me” in 2015, which means his official presence will likely be at the year-end acting awards. People are curious about whether he will receive the trophy for the top prize at the acting awards and what stories he will reveal.
