Beloved “King The Land” Actress Jang Mi Ja Passes Away

Actress and voice actor Jang Mi Ja has passed away at the age of 84. Known for her memorable performance as the mother-in-law in the drama “Couple Clinic: Love and War,” Jang Mi Ja leaves behind a remarkable legacy.

According to the Korea Broadcasting Actors’ Labor Union on January 27, Jang Mi Ja passed away due to illness. Her husband, voice actor and actor Park Woong, along with their two sons, are receiving condolences at the funeral hall.

Jang Mi Ja began her acting career in 1959 with theater. In 1963, she joined DBS Dong-A Broadcasting as part of its inaugural voice actor group, which was later integrated into KBS as the 6th voice actor class.

Over a career spanning 66 years, Jang Mi Ja appeared in numerous productions, earning widespread love from audiences. Her notable works include the dramas “The Second Republic,” “Couple Clinic: Love and War,” “The Man in Crisis,” “The Sons of Sol Pharmacy House,” “The Light in Your Eyes,” and “King the Land.”

As a member of the Korean Theater Association, Jang Mi Ja also led the theater company Samgaksan. She delivered powerful performances in plays such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Drying Red Peppers, On Golden Pond, and The Hours of Man.

She often shared the stage with her husband, Park Woong, in productions like Living on Golden Pond and The Dancing Silver Portrait. Together, they showcased masterful acting chemistry.

Jang Mi Ja’s funeral is being held at the Seoul National University Hospital Funeral Hall, Room 4. The procession will take place on January 29 at 6 a.m.
