Ahn Eun Jin Gets Honest About Facial Paralysis Diagnosis And How It Hurt Her As An Actress
Ahn Eun Jin revealed that she once suffered facial paralysis.
On the 13th, Jung Jae Hyung’s YouTube channel released a video titled “What Did Kang Joon Say Before He Left Last Week?” featuring actress Ahn Eun Jin as a guest.
During the video, Ahn Eun Jin opened up about the casting controversy that arose during “My Dearest.” She said, “It was really hard. At the time, I tried to push through it no matter what, but looking back, I realize it really was difficult,” adding, “There was something difficult with every project. The pressure was just too much.”
Ahn Eun Jin also spoke about her experience filming “Bad Mother,” the drama she worked on prior to “My Dearest.”
She said, “I had something like a stroke-like episode and developed Bell’s palsy. I thought, ‘When I’m weak, it shows up in my nervous system.’ I was brushing my teeth and water was leaking from one side of my mouth. It wasn’t like just feeling sick — I didn’t even know why it was happening. It happened with a time delay. It happened on a filming day. I went to set without even knowing it was Bell’s palsy. It kept feeling stranger as time went on. I went straight to the hospital and found out it was facial paralysis. I thought I’d recover after a few days of rest, but I didn’t. I was depressed and so sad,” she continued, “We stopped filming my close-up shots entirely and only filmed my side profile while I went to the hospital. I took medicine every day, got acupuncture every day, and received steroid shots from Western medicine doctors, but I swelled up so much. That was a hard time for me. I bought myself about a month. Since it wasn’t getting better and kept getting worse every day, it was hard to stay positive. That drama ended with my face more swollen than ever.”
