Director Ahn Pan Seok has passed away after battling a cerebral hemorrhage, with his funeral to be held privately.

Following Director Ahn Pan Seok’s passing on the 12th, the team behind the new ENA drama “Love Doctor,” which he directed, announced the news through an official statement, saying, “Director Ahn Pan Seok passed away on August 12th, 2026, at the age of 64.”

The statement continued, “In accordance with the wishes of the bereaved family, the funeral proceedings will be held privately,” and asked for the cooperation of the press. The memorial will be set up at the funeral hall of Seoul National University Hospital in Hyehwa-dong.

The director had reportedly been battling a chronic cerebral hemorrhage, and his condition worsened recently.

Meanwhile, Director Ahn Pan Seok entered the broadcasting industry in 1987 as a producer with MBC’s drama division, and officially debuted as a director in 1994 with “Love’s Greeting.” He went on to direct works such as “The White Tower,” “The Wife’s Credentials,” “Something in the Rain,” “Secret Affair,” “Discreet Love,” “Nice Sister Who Buys Meals,” “Spring Night,” and “Graduation,” earning love for his delicate directing style.

He was especially known as a “melodrama master” and a heavyweight in the broadcasting industry with a devoted domestic fanbase, having consistently delivered highly acclaimed melodramas. Industry insiders, bereaved family, and acquaintances are currently preparing a mourning space amid their grief and planning to pay their respects.
