Chae Jong Hyeop Sends Notice Of Contract Termination To Upcoming Movie’s Production Days Before Filming Begins Due To Delays, Agency Explains Why
Actor Chae Jong Hyeop, who was scheduled to appear in the film “Turtle,” has entered into conflict with the production company after exchanging notices of contract termination just before the first day of filming, and his agency has released a statement.
On the 13th of August, Chae Jong Hyeop’s agency Blitzway told OSEN, “The contract for the film ‘Turtle’ specified the exact filming period, and Chae Jong Hyeop was scheduled to complete filming within that period before starting work on a drama. However, due to the production company’s circumstances, the filming period passed, and there was no prior consultation or agreement procedure regarding the schedule changes between the actor, the drama production company, and the broadcasting channel.”
They continued, “We proposed proceeding with the film shoot after the drama filming was completed, but could not reach an agreement, so we inevitably sent a content-certified letter to terminate the contract. We still hope for an amicable agreement as a priority, but if coordination is not achieved, we will proceed with legal measures according to the contract and relevant laws.”
Earlier that day, a media outlet reported that Chae Jong Hyeop had signed a contract in April with production company Popcorn Film to appear in “Turtle.” However, the filming scheduled for May was delayed due to the production company’s circumstances. After recently completing the script reading, the first filming was scheduled for the 16th, but Chae Jong Hyeop’s side notified them of the contract termination through a content-certified letter.
Chae Jong Hyeop’s side argued, “Even though the specified filming period had completely passed, filming had not started, making it impossible to fulfill the contract,” claiming non-performance of obligations by the production company.
On the other hand, Popcorn Film countered, “The filming period (May–July) was only a detailed schedule plan, and it was specified that it could be changed through consultation if unavoidable circumstances arose. Chae Jong Hyeop actively participated in script rehearsals and preparations before filming, which is no different from agreeing to the schedule change.”
Popcorn Film further stated that in August, Chae Jong Hyeop’s side did not participate in action training or costume fittings, making the first filming impossible, and declared, “If an amicable resolution is not reached, we will take legal action such as claiming damages.”
