Choi Hyun Wook Faces Backlash For Throwing Fast Ceremonial Pitch In Front Of A Child Batter, Issues Apology
Actor Choi Hyun Wook has issued an apology after facing criticism for throwing a fast ceremonial pitch in front of a child batter.
On October 9, Choi Hyun Wook threw the first pitch at the KBO League postseason first-round game between the SSG Landers and the Samsung Lions at Incheon SSG Landers Field.
During the pitch, Choi Hyun Wook threw the ball with force, and it flew toward the head area of the young SSG Landers fan serving as the ceremonial batter. The incident sparked criticism, with many pointing out that it could have caused serious injury. Choi Hyun Wook previously played baseball up until high school.
He also drew backlash for bowing to the audience and leaving the field immediately after the pitch, without checking on the child or offering an apology on the spot.
On October 10, Choi Hyun Wook addressed the controversy through the fan communication platform Bubble, saying, “Since a young child was standing in front of me, I should have thrown the ball slowly and from a closer distance, but I was too nervous and didn’t think properly. I’m truly sorry.”
He added, “I was so excited to go to a baseball game for the first time in a while. I was really nervous during the first pitch yesterday, and the ball slipped out of my hand. I’ll contact the child batter and their parents today or tomorrow to personally apologize.”
Choi Hyun Wook made his debut in 2019 with the web drama “Real:Time:Love” and gained recognition through dramas such as “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” (2022) and “Weak Hero Class 1” (2022).
