Korean Actor Booked On Stalking Charges Against Former Girlfriend, Shocking Story Goes Viral, He Issues An Explanation
Actor Choi Jung Won, formerly of UN, has been booked on stalking charges.
It has been reported through SBS coverage that he received an emergency temporary order.
On the 19th of August, SBS reported that the Seoul Jungbu Police Station booked Choi Jung Won on the 16th for stalking, including showing up at the house of a woman he knew while holding a weapon. According to the report, the police took safety measures for the victim while also applying for an emergency temporary order against Choi Jung Won’s stalking behavior. The Seoul Central District Court approved it to prevent urgent and repeated stalking actions.
An emergency temporary order is a system where the police, prior to court approval, can immediately issue restrictions such as prohibiting approach in order to protect stalking victims. The perpetrator cannot approach within 100m of the victim, nor approach places such as their residence or workplace. Contact through phone, text, or social media is also prohibited. Violation can result in up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won.
Choi Jung Won, in an exclusive interview with Sports Seoul, admitted, “It’s true I was investigated by the police, but there are unfair parts. This happened during the process of breaking up with my current girlfriend. However, there are misunderstandings. It’s not true that I stalked her or went to her house with a weapon. I clarified everything during the police investigation.”
Afterwards, parts of SBS’s original report were corrected. SBS changed the statement “he went to the woman’s house with a weapon” to “he went to the woman’s house and picked up a weapon.”
Through SBS, Choi Jung Won claimed that when he notified his girlfriend of the breakup, she threatened to spread negative images of him. He explained that he picked up the weapon in an attempt to self-harm, not to threaten the other person.
