Former Actor-Idol Forwarded To The Prosecution On Charges Of Stalking
Actor Choi Jungwon, a former member of the group UN, has been forwarded to the prosecution on charges of stalking.
According to an MBN report on the 12th of November, the Seoul Jungbu Police Station transferred Choi Jungwon’s case to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office.
Earlier, on August 16, he was investigated by police after reportedly threatening his girlfriend outside her home following her breakup notice. The police charged him with stalking and issued a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching the victim. Two days later, the Seoul Central District Court accepted the victim’s request, banning Choi Jungwon from coming within 100 meters of her and from making any contact.
At the time, following media reports, Choi Jungwon explained his side in an exclusive interview with Sports Seoul, saying, “There was a misunderstanding during the breakup process with my current girlfriend. The allegations of stalking and carrying a weapon are not true.” He completely denied the accusations and claimed he was being unfairly treated.
In 2023, Choi was also embroiled in an affair scandal with an acquaintance, drawing public disappointment. The acquaintance’s husband claimed, “Choi Jungwon and my wife dated before marriage,” and accused him of “destroying our family,” causing a stir. With repeated controversies involving romantic partners, even his remaining fans have expressed disappointment. Attention is now on whether he will make a statement following the indictment.
Choi Jungwon debuted in 1999 with the group Bronze and re-debuted the following year as part of the male duo UN. Alongside member Kim Jung Hoon, he gained immense popularity before the group disbanded in 2005, after which he transitioned into acting. He earned praise for his performances in dramas such as “My Secret Hotel,” “The Family Is Coming,” “Only Love,” “The Time We Were Not in Love,” “Shining Eunsoo,” and “She Would Never Know.” However, due to the current controversy, his chances of making a comeback remain uncertain.
