Famous Variety Star Admits To Being Lacking In His 1st Acting Role, Says He’s Taking Acting Lessons

Variety star Dex has opened up about his acting in the newly released drama “The Defects”!

On July 28, a new video was released on the YouTube channel Jjanhanyung Shin Dong Yup.

Dex appeared in the video alongside actress Won Jin Ah, his co-star in his first acting project “The Defects.” The two shared drinks while having an honest conversation.

Dex explained, “My role is someone who handles the kids labeled as defective products in a cartel that shops for children. I chose it because it has many action scenes and no dialogue. I’ve never acted before, and I didn’t want my inexperience to show. I didn’t want to be a burden, so I took on a quiet role.”

He also expressed his gratitude to veteran actress Yum Jung Ah, saying, “Doing my first acting job beside Sunbae Jung Ah made me realize that when you’re with someone good, you end up doing better yourself. She looked out for me with care.”

Won Jin Ah shared, “Whenever Dex started filming, his eyes would change. He plays a villainous role, but there’s such depth to the character that you can’t bring yourself to hate him.”

However, Dex’s first attempt at acting has sparked some controversy. Some viewers commented, “You can see his nervousness,” “He should be leading the drama, but it feels awkward,” and “His walking looks strange.”

In the video, Dex revealed that he’s been in the entertainment industry for five years, but considers only three of those to be “serious.” He said, “I see myself as an outsider who rolled in, so I try my best not to be disliked. I wasn’t originally planning to become a celebrity, so I’m cautious.”

Shin Dong Yup comforted him, saying, “Who says only acting majors should act? That’s nonsense. It doesn’t matter.”

Dex then shared, “I’ve been taking acting lessons lately. I didn’t do well in ‘The Defects’ and felt disappointed in myself. I’m taking lessons now to improve the parts I lacked.”

Shin Dong Yup advised him, “Keep taking acting classes, even when you’re not working on a project. Think of it as a lifelong journey. There are even top singers who still train. No matter how great you are, you need a coach—someone who can give you an objective view of your flaws.”

Dex currently appears in the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama “The Defects” alongside Yum Jung Ah and Won Jin Ah.
