Actor Lee Sang Bo’s sudden passing has brought renewed attention to his family history, which became public during a past false drug accusation.

On the 27th of March, according to Pyeongtaek Police Station in Gyeonggi, Lee Sang Bo was found dead at his home in Pyeongtaek the day before. He was 44 years old. The police are investigating the specific circumstances of his death and have found no signs of criminal activity.

Born in 1981, Lee Sang Bo debuted in 2006 with the drama “Invisible Man Choi Jang Soo” and appeared in various works including “The Glory of a Daughter-in-Law” and “Miss Monte Cristo.” However, In September 2022, he was embroiled in allegations of drug use. However, he explained that the substances were prescribed medication for depression treatment, not drugs, and was cleared of charges.

During this process, the background for his medication use was revealed. Lee, who denied the charges, shared on his social media account, “I had no family to spend the holidays with. Burying the people I love in my heart was never easy. So I relied more on sedatives, and now I have become a weak person who inevitably becomes depressed without them.”

After being cleared, in October of the same year, he appeared on CBS Radio’s “Kim Hyun Jung’s News Show” and explained the situation, saying he had drunk a can of beer along with his usual sedatives due to “longing for my family and the loneliness of being alone.” He also revealed that during the search of his home after the urgent arrest, the sedatives he regularly took were found.

Through MBN’s “Special Report World,” he also shared that he had left Seoul and was staying at a suburban lodging facility. Lee revealed that he lost his older sister in a traffic accident in 1998, and his father in 2010, and had been undergoing counseling and medication since then. His mother passed away from lung cancer in 2019, after which his depression and anxiety worsened, leading him to take antidepressants and sedatives.

Visiting his mother’s grave, Lee said, “I was cleared, and yesterday happened to be my mother’s birthday. The feeling was different from usual. I don’t need to worry now. It’s not completely healed, but being cleared gives me comfort.”

In November of the same year, on Channel S’s “Charging Sisters,” he spoke about his family directly. Lee said, “There were just four people in my family,” recounting the pain of losing his sister, his father who suddenly passed in a traffic accident, and his mother who died after battling lung cancer.

Recalling his mother’s funeral, he said, “It was a three-day funeral, and to keep my promise to my mother, I didn’t shed a single tear in front of anyone. I cried only when no one was around because I worried my mother in the portrait would be too sad if she saw me break down.”

Afterward, Lee returned to acting with the drama “Elegant Empire” and last year signed an exclusive contract with Korea Management Group (KMG), sharing that he was reviewing upcoming projects.

Meanwhile, Lee Sang Bo’s funeral is being held at Pyeongtaek Central Funeral Hall, Room 3. The funeral procession will take place on the 29th at 10:30 AM, with the burial at Cheonan Memorial Park and Pyeongtaek Municipal Memorial Hall.
