Beloved Korean Director Who Passed Away Suddenly Revealed To Have Died From Brain Hemorrhage
It was recently revealed that the cause of the death of film director Kim Changmin, who passed away last November, was a brain hemorrhage caused by assault.
According to reports from Yonhap News on the 31st of March, Director Kim visited a restaurant in Guri, Gyeonggi Province in the early hours of October 20th of the same year with his son. His son wanted to eat pork cutlet, which led them to visit the restaurant at an early hour. The son is known to have autistic tendencies.
However, during the meal, a dispute arose with other customers in the restaurant over noise and other issues, which eventually escalated into a physical fight. Director Kim was knocked to the floor due to the assault and was transported to the hospital but ultimately did not regain consciousness.
The bereaved family told the media, “There was a university hospital near the scene, but the transfer was delayed by an hour, and we missed the golden time,” expressing their regret. They continued, “An arrest warrant was applied for only one of the multiple suspects, and only later were two suspects identified and warrants applied for, but they were dismissed. The investigation was inadequate and delayed for months,” voicing their frustration with the investigation.
They also said, “Five months have passed since the incident, but the person who killed my son is freely walking the streets,” and added, “He had struggled for a long time in the film industry and was just beginning to bloom, so it is very tragic,” expressing their sorrow.
Meanwhile, Director Kim was declared brain-dead at the time and saved four lives through organ donation before passing away.
Director Kim entered the film industry in 2013 as a props manager for the movie “The Suspect.” He worked in the animation team for films such as “Colonel Kim Changsoo” (2017), “The Drug King” (2018), “The Witch” (2018), “Rain and Your Story” (2021), and “Firefighter” (2024). He directed “No One’s Daughter” (2016) and “Guui Station Exit 3” (2019).
