Gong Yoo And Seo Hyun Jin Reveal The Reasons Why They Chose To Starr In Netflix’s “The Trunk”
Actor Gong Yoo revealed that one of his reasons for joining the cast of “The Trunk“ was the opportunity to work with Seo Hyun Jin.
Recently, a press conference for the Netflix original series “The Trunk” was held at Raum Art Center in Gangnam, Seoul. The event was attended by director Kim Gyu Tae and cast members Seo Hyun Jin, Gong Yoo, Jung Yoon Ha, Jo Yi Gun, and Kim Dong Won.
When asked why she chose to star in “The Trunk,” Seo Hyun Jin explained, “As director Kim Gyu Tae mentioned, I liked how the script wasn’t overly explicit. It had long pauses and room for interpretation, depending on how it was portrayed and by whom.”
In response, Gong Yoo humorously remarked, “For me, it was an opportunity to meet the Oh Hae Young I loved,” referring to Seo Hyun Jin’s iconic role in the drama “Another Miss Oh” (2016). This comment drew laughter from attendees. Host Park Kyung Lim cleverly added, “It’s the meeting of Oh Hae Young and Goblin,” referencing Gong Yoo’s landmark drama “Goblin” (2016). Seo Hyun Jin chimed in, expressing her excitement about meeting Goblin’s lead.
Gong Yoo further elaborated on his decision, stating, “I was drawn to the original story’s concept. It’s a work that seems to discuss love and relationships from a slightly different perspective. The story holds meaning as it can be interpreted in various ways depending on one’s viewpoint.”
Seo Hyun Jin, in turn, referenced Gong Yoo’s hit drama “Goblin,” saying, “I was thrilled to meet the Goblin deity too.” She added about her role, “When I first read the script, I couldn’t immediately grasp the emotions. I appreciated the long pauses and space for interpretation. Depending on how it’s performed and by whom, the story’s tone can shift, which is why I chose this project.”
“The Trunk” is a mystery melodrama centered on a peculiar marriage story between Noh In Ji (played by Seo Hyun Jin) and Han Jung Won (played by Gong Yoo), unraveling after a trunk is discovered floating in a lake. The series premiered exclusively on Netflix on November 29.
