Famous Veteran Actor Under Fire For Reply To A Fan On Instagram, Why? And Why Did He And His Agency Apologize?
Actor Ha Jung Woo has personally apologized to a fan.
On the 21st of July, Ha Jung Woo’s agency, Walkhouse Company, stated, “We sincerely apologize to the individual who may have felt uncomfortable regarding our artist’s social media activity. The actor has also personally contacted the fan to apologize and had a conversation. We promise to be more careful and considerate in communication and language when interacting with fans in the future.”
The controversy began when Ha Jung Woo gave a nickname to a fan with the surname Choi, calling them “Choi-eumje,” a Korean term referring to aphrodisiacs. One netizen criticized him, saying, “It’s a term that refers to drugs that heighten sexual desire. How can anyone still say they love him after hearing that?”
Additionally, he previously gave other fans questionable nicknames. To a fan with the surname Byun, he said “Toilet” (a pun based on the Korean word for toilet). For someone named Park Bor-yoon, he called them “Park Volume.” When a commenter wrote, “Oppa, I think this is my tenth time [asking]. What kind of lobbying do I have to do to get a nickname from the director? I’m Sun Hyemi,” he replied, “Sunhee’s mom.” When another fan asked, “Oppa, what should I eat for lunch? Please recommend something,” he answered, “Omurice” (a pun on “fold your rice”).
As the backlash intensified, Ha Jung Woo deleted the “Choi-eumje” comment and ultimately issued an apology.
