Ha Young’s Scheduled Interview Canceled as Actress Remains Silent Amid Pro-Japanese Controversy

Actress Ha Young has remained silent since the controversy broke over her great-grandfather’s pro-Japanese ties. Her once-active social media presence has also come to a halt.

Ha Young recently mentioned on KBS 2TV’s “Problem Child in House” that her family had been a family of doctors for four generations, notably revealing that her great-grandfather studied Western medicine in Japan and had once treated Emperor Gojong.

However, after the broadcast, it became known that Ha Young’s great-grandfather was Dr. An Sang Ho, and controversy erupted after it was highlighted that his name appeared on a 1916 roster of council members for the pro-Japanese organization Daejeong Chinmokhoe.

Ha Young’s side initially drew a firm line, calling the related pro-Japanese allegations “unfounded”. However, as the controversy grew, her agency conducted further checks and reversed its earlier stance, confirming the record does in fact exist, adding, “Actress Ha Young feels very heavy-hearted that this controversy arose unintentionally.”

Ha Young’s father also stepped forward on behalf of the family. In an interview published August 11th with Ilgan Sports, he said, “I never imagined my grandfather could be implicated in a pro-Japanese controversy,” adding, “I feel deeply sorry for the concern caused by this controversy tied to history.”

Even with statements from both her agency and her father, Ha Young’s own voice has yet to be heard, as she has not issued a direct statement since the controversy began.

Her previously scheduled meeting with reporters was also canceled. Ha Young had been set to conduct a promotional interview for the Netflix series “Our Sticky Love” on August 14th, but it was called off, with only an “unavoidable circumstances” explanation given.

Her social media activity has stopped as well. Prior to the controversy, she had actively promoted “Our Sticky Love” with as many as 10 posts. She has addressed the controversy neither through her agency nor her own social media.

With her interview canceled and her social media silent, attention is turning to when Ha Young will finally speak for herself.
