Famous “Squid Game” Actor Opens Up About Leaving Work At Major Company To Pursue Acting In His Mid 30s
Famous “Squid Game” Actor Heo Sung Tae talked about the difficult period he went through as a bit-part actor after his debut.
On the JTBC program “Newsroom,” which aired on the 6th of December, Heo Sung Tae appeared as a lead actor of the film “The Informer.”
When asked, “Before debuting, you worked at a large company before becoming an actor. Have you ever regretted choosing this path?” he replied, “Honestly, since I’m only human, when I first started doing bit-parts, there were times when I worried about next month’s rent.”
In 2011, Heo Sung Tae quit a major company where he was working as a deputy manager and entered the entertainment industry for the first time at age 35 through an audition program. He previously mentioned on a variety show, “My annual salary back then was about 70–80 million won [$47,000 to $54,000].”
Regarding this, Heo Sung Tae said, “At the time, there were moments when I regretted it. Because I was the one who forced others to make sacrifices so I could do what I wanted to do. But I kept telling myself, ‘I need to show at least some results so that they won’t regret supporting me.’”
When asked, “If you could go back, would you still audition?” he answered, “I think I would. These days, I often think—strangely enough—when the red light on the camera turns on, I feel happy. Simply put, it feels like I’ve found the job I was meant to do.”
The story of how Heo Sung Tae pursued his dream in his 30s has inspired fans who applauded him for following his passion despite all the obstacles.
