Actress Hwang Jung Eum has expressed her position on the lawsuit filed against her for defamation by a woman named A, who mistakenly believed her to be involved in an extramarital affair with her husband.
Recently, a representative from Hwang Jung Eum’s agency stated, “There was a misunderstanding between legal representatives while trying to reach a settlement with A, leading to the situation that resulted in the lawsuit.” They further added, “We have made efforts to resolve the situation, but it has come to this point. Although a lawsuit has already been filed, we will continue to make efforts to resolve it.”
According to the police, A submitted a complaint for defamation against Hwang Jung Eum to a Police Station on the 19th of June.
In April, the actress took to Instagram to share stories and posts about her husband’s alleged affair. She shared a photo of a woman and added captions suggesting she’s the mistress. In one story, she wrote, “You ugly woman. Please get married to Youngdonie [her husband’s name]. Can you just let me divorce him and go to Bangkok?”
However, the woman in question ended up issuing a statement denying any wrongdoing and demanding an apology. Shortly after, Hwang Jung Eum took to her Instagram to apologize, however, the statement was met with severe backlash after Ms. A exposed she hadn’t reached out to her as she said in her statement. Ms. A said, “I never got a proper apology, and I’m still suffering from a lot of hate comments.”

Meanwhile, Hwang Jung Eum is currently in the process of divorce with her husband. They initially got married in February 2016 but went through a separation and reconciliation process in 2021. However, in late February, Hwang Jung Eum reinitiated the divorce proceedings.
