Famous Veteran Korean Actor Accused of Having an Affair, Agency Denies
Actor Hwang Jung Min has been accused of having an affair amid the box office success of his film Hope (dir. Na Hong Jin), though his agency has denied the claims.
On July 29, posts from an individual identified only as “A,” who claimed to have had a personal relationship with Hwang Jung Min, spread rapidly across social media and online communities, drawing widespread attention. Given that Hwang Jung Min has often publicly expressed affection for his wife and family, the posts spread quickly.
His agency Sam Company denied the claims, stating: “The person who posted these claims is a suspect in an ongoing stalking case against Hwang Jung Min.”
The agency added that it had already filed criminal charges against the individual and received a ruling, stating, “The court imposed temporary restraining measures, including a no-contact order, on the suspect three separate times, and issued a summary order of a roughly 3 million KRW (about $2,020) fine after recognizing the stalking charge.” They continued, “We plan to take further legal action regarding the maliciously edited posts,” and apologized, saying, “We are sorry for the concern this has caused.”
However, the legal dispute between Hwang Jung Min and A is still ongoing. Sports Kyunghyang reported the same day that A has filed a civil lawsuit against Hwang Jung Min seeking damages.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung Min recently returned to the big screen with Hope. The film has been performing well at the box office, surpassing 3.61 million cumulative admissions on the strength of word of mouth. He was set to appear alongside director Na Hong Jin and cast members Jo In Sung and Jung Ho Yeon for the film’s third week of stage greetings at Megabox COEX. Regarding this, the Hope team stated, “There is no change to the lineup of attendees.”
