Singer IU and actor Lee Jong Suk have denied breakup rumors, even addressing speculation involving BTS’s V.

On May 21, close sources to both IU and Lee Jong Suk stated, “The two are still happily dating.”

Rumors began on May 15 after a photo circulated on online communities showing IU dining at MOSU, a restaurant operated by chef Ahn Sung Jae, allegedly with BTS’s V on her birthday. Some netizens speculated about the absence of Lee Jong Suk on her birthday and questioned why she would spend it with V instead. The fact that Lee Jong Suk wasn’t seen in any of the photos IU posted from her birthday celebration — which featured friends like Kang Hanna and Lee Joo Young — further fueled breakup speculation.

However, it was later revealed that the dinner was a casual gathering of those involved in IU’s 2023 release “Love Wins All.” V, who appeared in the music video, was also invited as part of the group. In fact, V didn’t attempt to hide his presence, dining naturally without a mask or hat. This shows that their meeting wasn’t secretive or suspicious in nature.

IU and Lee Jong Suk publicly confirmed their relationship in December 2022. Lee Jong Suk had even expressed his affection for IU during a year-end awards ceremony, and the couple openly acknowledged their romance. However, as with many top-star relationships, privacy comes with occasional unwanted rumors.

This isn’t the first time breakup rumors have surfaced. The first occurred last year, but was quickly shut down when it was revealed that Lee Jong Suk attended IU’s concert with close friend Shin Jae Ha. The second rumor came in February this year from Chinese communities speculating that IU wearing a ring on her index finger was a sign of a breakup. At the time, during a Netflix interview for “When Life Gives You Tangerines,” IU had said, “As far as I know, (Lee Jong Suk) is living a very busy life. At this moment, I want to say that only I knows about Gwanshik (Park Bo Gum’s character) for now.”

Despite ongoing speculation, IU and Lee Jong Suk continue to be in a stable relationship.
