IU’s Reaction When Fellow “When Life Gives You Tangerine” Stars Won Awards Will Melt Your Heart
IU’s reactions when Choi Dae Hoon and Yeom Hye Ran took home awards are going viral!
On February 5, the 61th Baeksang Arts Awards was held in Gangnam, Seoul. Following last year, the ceremony was once again hosted by Shin Dong Yup, Suzy, and Park Bo Gum. This year, “When Life Gives You Tangerines” was the most awarded drama of the night taking home many awards including best drama and best drama script.
Yum Hye Ran and Choi Dae Hoon, both from the Netflix series “When Life Gives You Tangerines”, won the Best Supporting Actor and Actress awards in the television category.
Yum Hye Ran, who played Jeon Gwang Rye, emotionally said, “My dear Aesoon girls are here. Aesoon, mommy won an award,” drawing cheers from IU and Kim Tae Yeon, who played Oh Aesoon.

She continued, “There are so many great supporting actresses. Veterans like Kim Yong Rim and Na Moon Hee have been pillars, and I’ve met many respected seniors like the late Kang Myung Joo. Regardless of age, there are amazing young actors too — I send them deep respect and gratitude,” acknowledging the value of the award.
She became visibly emotional, and IU, watching from the audience, was also seen tearing up.
Choi Dae Hoon, who played Mr. Hak, Boo Sang Gil, said, “It feels like I’m on a hidden camera show,” unable to hide his overwhelmed feelings. “I think this might be the best Children’s Day gift I’ve ever received,” he said gratefully.
He added, “Maybe I haven’t won many awards before because I was meant to win this one,” and thanked the When Life Gives You Tangerines team.
Choi continued, “I started this job because I liked the way people responded to it. But instead, I feel like I’ve received comfort and fulfillment. I’m honored. From now on, I’ll live to comfort others. I won’t focus on whether people like me or not. I’ll take responsibility and fulfill my role as an actor. I’ll try to be a happy and influential actor, and live every day with gratitude.”
During both actors’ speech, IU’s reactions and actions gained attention. She was seen happily cheering on Choi Dae Hoon as he delivered his winning speech.
Meanwhile, the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards considered content aired or released between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, across terrestrial, general programming, cable, and OTT platforms, as well as Korean feature films and theatrical productions within the same period.
