Famous Actor Diagnosed With Thyroid Cancer Reveals Why He Couldn’t Even Tell His Family
Actor Jang Geun Suk revealed why he didn’t even tell his family about his battle with thyroid cancer.
On the July 16 episode of MBC’s variety program “Radio Star,” actor Jang Geun Suk, FTISLAND’s Lee Hongki, TXT’s Soobin, and comedian Kim Shinyoung appeared as guests.
Jang Geun Suk began by saying, “I was a bit sick last year. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, but thankfully, it was discovered early when it was still very small.”
He continued, “I tried to have surgery early, but due to the medical crisis, I had to wait about 10 months without being able to get surgery. I delayed projects and waited, and then suddenly a surgery slot opened, so I had the surgery right away.”
Kim Gura then comforted him by saying, “It’s a relief it didn’t spread to other areas.”
Jang Geun Suk added, “I didn’t tell anyone, not even my parents. I felt like if I told them, it would only make it harder for them to understand or cope.”
He went on, “I thought their concern and sympathy might feel burdensome, so I kept quiet and endured it alone. Thankfully, I’m fully recovered and healthy now. After going through that, I’ve developed a desire to be more active, which is why I appeared on ‘Radio Star.'”

Kim Gura responded, “The changes in your thinking that come after enduring pain can make the rest of your life more positive.”
Back in August of 2024, the actor surprised fans by revealing he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. In his statement, the actor revealed that he had surgery and was recovering well.
We’re glad that Jang Geun Suk has recovered and is back to promoting on TV!
