Jang Geun Suk’s Drama Reportedly Halts Filming For Nearly Two Months Amid Funding Issues
Jang Geun Suk‘s upcoming drama “Hyeopban” has reportedly suspended filming for close to two months amid what an industry insider described as funding problems, according to a My Daily report published on September 20.
Per the outlet, production on “Hyeopban,” which began in the first half of this year, has reportedly come to a stop. An industry insider reportedly attributed the halt to issues with the drama’s funding flow, telling My Daily, “Filming has been stopped for close to two months because of a problem with the production financing.” No resumption date has reportedly been set, and the cast is said to be left waiting in the meantime. As of this writing, no official statement has been released by Jang Geun Suk’s agency or the drama’s production company confirming the details of the report.
“Hyeopban” is a healing drama about an excellent cook involved in organized crime who helps a university student in crisis, then hides out in their home, offering comfort and encouragement through warm home-cooked meals. The series is directed by Lee Min Woo, known for previous works including “Boys Over Flowers,” “God’s Quiz” Season 4, and “Strangers.”
The drama is based on a novel of the same name by Japanese author Fukuzawa Tetsuzo, which was previously adapted by TV Tokyo in 2016 as “Hyeopban: A Man’s Meal,” starring Namase Katsuhisa. The Korean remake stars Jang Geun Suk in the lead role, alongside Shin Eun Soo, Choi Bo Min, and Lee El. With filming reportedly stalled and no official word from either side yet, attention now turns to how the situation will be resolved.
