Popular Rising Actor Shares His Thoughts On Doing Intimate & 19+ Scenes For His Drama
Jang Ryul has talked about his drama “Chunhwa Love Story” and commented on the 19+ scenes of it!
Recently, Xports News sat down for an interview with Jang Ryul at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, to discuss the TVING original series “Chunhwa Love Story.”
“Chunhwa Love Story” is a romantic youth historical drama that unfolds when Princess Hwa Ri (played by Go Ara), who failed in her first love, declares that she will personally choose her future husband. As a result, the capital’s biggest playboy, Hwan (played by Jang Ryul), and the ideal groom candidate, Jang Won (played by Kang Chan Hee), become entangled in her plans. Jang Ryul plays Choi Hwan, the only son of the biggest merchant in the Eastern Kingdom and the most notorious playboy in the city.
As the drama nears its conclusion, Jang Ryul shared his thoughts, saying, “The director, staff, and actors all worked hard to bring this project to the viewers. I’m happy that this drama came to life, and I want to sincerely thank everyone who watched it.”
Jang Ryul, who joined the project after receiving a love call from director Lee Kwang Young, said, “The love story felt deeply moving. I looked into the director’s previous works, and since this was my first time attempting a romance genre, I thought it would be great to be part of the world he creates and the way he expresses love.”
He continued, “Among his past works, I really enjoyed ‘Call It Love.’ While watching it, I felt that the director’s approach to romance could help me grow in this genre.”
Even though this was his first time tackling romance, Jang Ryul admitted that he wouldn’t have taken the role if the script hadn’t captivated him.
“Choi Hwan is a character shrouded in mystery. But the more I explored him, the deeper his emotions felt. I thought that if I could portray him well, I could grow as an actor. His internal dilemmas, torn between work and love, made him a compelling character,” he explained.
“Chunhwa Love Story” features several bed scenes, including intimate moments between the main characters, Hwa Ri and Choi Hwan.
Jang Ryul shared, “In previous projects, if I had a scene requiring exposure, I would either diet or bulk up. But this time, since I wanted to prepare meticulously, I ended up losing weight. However, since I had to show my upper body, I worked out a lot and ate well, which actually made me healthier.”
He added, “Since my character is a playboy, I also took care of my skin and trained diligently for seven months. There are many actors with better physiques than me, but I did my best. Interestingly, the director told me I didn’t need to go that far. Usually, male actors get conscious about what they eat before filming such scenes, but the director encouraged me to eat comfortably. So after shoots, I often went out for a bowl of jjajangmyeon,” he shared with a laugh.
