Beloved Korean Actor Jung Myunghwan, From Several Hit 1990s Dramas, Passes Away

Actor Jung Myunghwan passed away on May 8.

On May 9, Jung Myunghwan’s side told Ilgan Sports, “Mr. Jung passed away at home the night before.” He was 65 years old. The cause of death is reported to be a myocardial infarction (heart attack).

Born in 1963, Jung graduated from Anyang Arts High School and debuted as a public recruitment actor through MBC’s 18th open talent recruitment in 1986. He was active in numerous dramas throughout the 1990s. He appeared in hit series such as Our Paradise and Eyes of Dawn, and left a deep impression with his powerful and charismatic acting in historical dramas like Hur Jun and Yi San. His last acting work was the 2014 drama Into the Flames.

He married in 2009, but it is reported that he was later divorced.

Jung was also well known as an avid fishing enthusiast. With top-tier fishing skills, he appeared on various fishing programs such as FTV’s Fishing Headquarters. In 2015, he won second place at the 14th Black Porgy Fishing Championship held in the Odo Islands, Japan.

His wake is being held in Room 2 of the funeral hall at Kangdong Sacred Heart Hospital. The funeral procession will take place on May 11 at 6:30 a.m., and he will be laid to rest at Seoul Memorial Park.
