Popular Breakout Actor From Netflix’s Hit “The Glory” Shocks With Financial Struggle Reveal Even After Drama’s Success
“The Glory” Actor Jung Sung Il has opened up about his acting career and shared a shocking truth about his earnings.
On the most recent episode of MBN·Channel S’s “Jeon Hyun Moo Plan 2,” Jung Sung Il, who joined Jeon Hyun Moo and Kwak Tube (Kwak Jun Bin) as a “food friend,” is seen reminiscing about his debut days while enjoying “the ultimate summer health food,” croaker.
That day, Jeon Hyun Moo and Kwak Tube visited Daebudo, a famous spot for day trips by the sea, where they met Jung Sung Il, who revealed his weight had dropped to 66kg. To help him regain strength, they recommended a croaker restaurant. Once there, Jung Sung Il showcased an impressive eating spree — tearing into grilled flatfish with his hands and devouring spicy croaker soup nonstop.
In the middle of the meal, Jeon Hyun Moo asked, “How did you debut?” Curious about Jung Sung Il’s beginnings, to which he replied, “I dropped out of college in my first year and came straight to Seoul without a plan, heading to Daehak-ro. From then on, I only did theater,” revealing his strong passion for acting.
When Kwak Tube followed up by asking, “How did you endure such a long period of being unknown?” Jung Sung Il confessed, “I did every kind of driving part-time job there was. In fact, even after ‘The Glory,’ I still worked delivery,” surprising everyone.
Many fans found it shocking that even after going viral for his acting following “The Glory” success, the actor still had to do part-time jobs to get by.
When the hosts asked, “Was it that settlement (payment) was not done?” and “Why on earth did you do it?” he answered, “The settlement was already all received, but anyway, I had to live. That money was not a huge or amazing amount of money for me.”
He added, “After that, it became to the extent that I don’t have to do part-time jobs. Now I can live with (appearance fees, etc.). In my early 30s, I also thought, ‘Can I make a living with this?'” and “But I think I wouldn’t have been able to do anything else besides acting. Even if I didn’t do it for a while, I would have come back again. I thought this or nothing,” showing his passion for acting.
Amid the unexpected confession, the atmosphere grew serious, but soon turned light again when Jung Sung Il began talking about movies. At that point, Kwak Tube revealed, “Hyun Moo hyung is really harsh when it comes to movie reviews. He’s at the level of ‘Dark Lee Dong Jin,’” sparking laughter on set.
