“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” Actress Kang Myung Joo Passes Away
Actor Kang Myung Joo has passed away after battling cancer at the age of 54.
On the 28th of February, actress Park Se Young, Kang Myung Joo’s daughter, announced the news on her Instagram, saying, “My mother took a long journey yesterday afternoon. I would appreciate it if you could remember actress Kang Myung Joo, the stage she loved, and the shining moments she had.”
It was reported that she passed away on the 27th after a battle with cancer. Her funeral is being held in Room 11 at the Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital Funeral Hall. She is survived by her husband, actor Park Yoon Hee, and their two daughters.
Kang Myung Joo made her debut in 1992 with the play Kuni, Nara by Experimental Theater Company and went on to appear in numerous productions, including Coriolanus, Whether Human or God, and Blood and Seed. Even while battling cancer last year, she performed in the play Bea. She was also active in dramas, playing a judge in Extraordinary Attorney Woo and appearing in KBS Drama Special 2024 – Around the Corner.
Her funeral will take place on March 2 at 7:40 a.m. The first burial site will be Seoul Memorial Park, followed by a second burial at Yongin Catholic Park Cemetery.
