Kim Jung Hyun Reflects On His Past Controversy, “I Behaved Poorly…. Causing Pain And Displeasure To Many”

Actor Kim Jung Hyun received an award at the “2024 KBS Drama Awards” and issued a public apology for his past behavior controversy, marking the first time in six years.

The awards ceremony, which aired on January 11 on KBS 2TV, was originally planned as a live broadcast on December 31, 2023. However, it was changed to a pre-recorded format following the Jeju Air plane tragedy. The event was hosted by broadcaster Jang Sung Kyu, Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun, and actor Moon Sang Min.

Kim Jung Hyun won the excellence Prize for his role in “Iron Family.” Holding his trophy with a bright smile, he expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you.”

He reflected, “I know well how lacking and flawed I am. Even so, I am grateful to stand here today. Honestly, until a few years ago, I thought I wouldn’t be able to act again—for various reasons and because I doubted myself.”

Kim Jung Hyun continued, “Standing in a place like this and receiving this award is something I deeply appreciate. However, I believe genuine gratitude cannot exist without reflecting on the past. At one point in my career, I behaved poorly, doing things I shouldn’t have, causing pain and displeasure to many. I sincerely apologize and bow my head in regret.”

He added, “This apology is not the end. I don’t expect forgiveness. But for me to continue my life and work, this is a necessary step. It’s a heavy story to share, but I will quickly step down after expressing my thanks.”

Kim Jung Hyun thanked the “Iron Family” team, his fans, his first agency, and his current agency. He concluded his speech by expressing his gratitude to his family: “To my father, mother, brother, and sister, who shared all the burdens and pain during my difficult times, I always wanted to be a proud son and sibling, but I wasn’t able to. I hope this moment can remain as a small but meaningful proud memory for us.”
