Controversial Couple Kim Min Hee [42] And Hong Sang Soo [64] Reportedly Welcoming A Child Together, Estranged Wife Didn’t Know
Actress Kim Min Hee [42], currently in the ninth year of her relationship with director Hong Sang Soo [64], has become the subject of pregnancy rumors. As Hong Sang Soo’s latest film is reportedly a strong contender for an invitation to the Berlin International Film Festival, public attention is now focused on Kim Min Hee’s potential role as a mother.
On January 17, Dispatch reported that Kim Min Hee is expecting Hong Sang Soo’s child and is due to give birth this spring. The media outlet claimed that the two were spotted visiting an obstetrics clinic together.
However, Hong Sang Soo’s representatives have not responded to inquiries, and close acquaintances from the film industry remain tight-lipped, stating they have no knowledge of the pregnancy rumors.
If Hong Sang Soo is officially invited to the Berlin International Film Festival next month, where his new film is expected to compete, the speculation surrounding Kim Min Hee’s pregnancy may finally be addressed publicly.
The two first met in 2015 while working on the film Right Now, Wrong Then and confirmed their extramarital relationship in 2017. Despite stepping away from domestic activities, they have consistently attended international film festivals together, demonstrating their unchanging bond.
Hong Sang Soo’s ties to the Berlin International Film Festival are significant, having participated eight times before, with seven of his works nominated in the competition category. His films have won prestigious awards, including the Silver Bear for Best Actress (On the Beach at Night Alone), Best Director (The Woman Who Ran), Best Screenplay (Introduction), and the Grand Jury Prize (The Novelist’s Film and In Water). His reputation as a “darling of Berlin” solidifies his likelihood of receiving yet another invitation this year.
Last year, the couple attended the Locarno International Film Festival with their film Walk Up, where Kim Min Hee won Best Performance. On stage, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you to Director Hong Sang Soo for creating such a beautiful film. I love working on your movies.”
Currently, Kim Min Hee and Hong Sang Soo are reportedly living together in Gyeonggi Province at her parents’ residence.
Additionally, Reports suggest that Hong Sang Soo’s legal wife, identified as A, was unaware of the pregnancy. In a phone call with a media outlet, she reportedly stated, “I had no idea about the pregnancy. Thank you for letting me know.”
While his estranged wife remained unaware, Kim Min Hee and Hong Sang Soo have seemingly entered parenthood after nine years of maintaining their controversial relationship. Although the arrival of new life is typically a cause for celebration, the public reaction has been overwhelmingly critical, with many expressing disapproval rather than congratulations.
