Actor Kim Soo Hyun‘s first official appearance after his controversy, a Taiwan fan meeting, has ultimately been canceled.

On the 25th of March, the Taiwanese convenience store brand hosting the event announced the cancellation of Kim Soo Hyun’s fan meeting schedule through its official account.

The brand stated, “Due to adjustments in the actor’s schedule, the fan-exclusive event that was scheduled to take place on the 30th during the Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival has been canceled.” Ticket refunds have begun.

Kim Soo Hyun was originally scheduled to attend the Taiwan Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival event and fan meeting on March 30. He was set to have a fan meeting session for about 40 minutes on the final day of the event.

However, Kim Soo Hyun recently became embroiled in controversy over allegations that he had been in a relationship with the late actress Kim Sae Ron since she was a minor, spanning six years. Kim Soo Hyun’s side acknowledged their relationship but refuted the claims, stating that they only started dating after she became an adult. This fan meeting had drawn attention as it was to be his first public event since the dating rumors surfaced.

The brand had not only planned Kim Soo Hyun’s fan meeting but also intended to release products featuring his photos. Local industry insiders speculated that if the event were canceled, a penalty of approximately 1.3 billion won [around $888,396] would be incurred. Ultimately, Kim Soo Hyun will not be attending the event.

Meanwhile, Kim Soo Hyun’s side is currently in a legal battle with the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute, which initially raised the allegations. Amid the controversy, his upcoming Disney+ drama “Knock Off,” originally set to be released in the first half of the year, has postponed its release indefinitely. Additionally, his appearances in the MBC variety show “Good Day” have been edited out.

Particularly, “Knock Off” is known to have had a production cost of several hundred billion won. If he is forced to step down from the project, the impact could be significant. With overseas events now facing uncertainty, attention is on whether he will be able to avoid financial losses.
