Known Korean Actress Faces Backlash For Hair Roller’s Prices, Issues Response
Actor Ku Hye Sun has addressed the controversy surrounding the price of her hair rollers.
On MBN’s “Kim Joo Ha’s Day and Night,” airing this Saturday, July 18, Ku Hye Sun personally introduces the hair roller that has been selling out and talks about the second act of her life as an entrepreneur.
Ku Hye Sun’s hair roller is an eco-friendly, recyclable product that has been patented and even made its way into duty-free stores — but it hasn’t been without controversy over its price. On the show, Ku Hye Sun explains, “Our product is on the pricier side, but mass-factory processing just isn’t possible for it. Everything is handmade, and it has to go through up to four rounds of processing.”
In particular, Ku Hye Sun confesses, “Since I was someone who did art before making products, and pricing artwork is an extremely subjective thing in art, I had to step away from that subjectivity and start calculating things like how many times over the cost I needed to charge just to break even.” She adds, “I feel like I ended up studying money. I realized, ‘I really didn’t know anything about money at all,'” sharing her genuine feelings about learning the realities of being a business owner.
Asked about comments like “she has delusions of grandeur” or “she talks big,” Ku Hye Sun openly admits, “I’ve heard that a lot,” before surprising everyone by adding, “I think it’s important to say things out loud. If I don’t say it, I won’t do it, because I won’t have said it. This is also just me knowing myself — I have a really lazy side to me.” Everyone on set reportedly showed deep agreement at Ku Hye Sun’s point that trying to live up to her own words is ultimately what makes them come true.
Ku Hye Sun, as a film director of 20 years, also calmly discusses her own films, saying “They all failed,” before adding the surprising twist, “The failures were successful.” She explains, “The failures gave me experience, made me tougher, and made me less afraid of failing,” revealing the genuine mindset that’s let her keep taking on new challenges.
Asked by Kim Joo Ha what goal she wants to achieve going forward, Ku Hye Sun thinks for a long while before answering, “Resisting my appetite,” showing off her quirky charm and sending the whole set into laughter.
Meanwhile, MBN’s issue-maker talk show “Kim Joo Ha’s Day and Night” is a new-concept show built around “day and night, cool head and hot heart, information and emotion.” It airs every Saturday at 9:40 p.m.
