Actor Cha Kang Seok (35), who previously defended President Yoon Seok Yeol’s declaration of martial law and was fired from his teaching job as a result, has made further political statements.

On January 16, Cha Kang Seok shared an article on social media about the prosecution’s recommendation for a life sentence for a military official who allegedly transferred South Korean security information to China for a large sum of money. He wrote, “Where are the spies? Supporting progressivism due to manipulation isn’t shameful, but there are people who can’t recognize their own ignorance even when it’s shown to them. Those who can’t even speak up about the deaths of patriots caused by the actions of spies should be ashamed.”

Cha Kang Seok also posted, “Why is there a flag of the Democratic Party of Korea at China’s 100th-anniversary celebration of the Communist Party? Please spread this information.”

Earlier, in December of the previous year, Cha Kang Seok supported the martial law declaration following the state of emergency, writing on social media, “There are too many spies, and I welcome martial law,” and “Please execute all the spies.” After facing backlash, he apologized and later mentioned that he had been fired from his contract teaching position. He expressed, “Even if you have different views, don’t reject them, but let’s create a country where respect and communication prevail.”

On January 14, Cha Kang Seok attended an anti-impeachment rally near the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, where he stated, “I am an actor who has been hunted down in this tragic era,” and claimed, “Many people are exposed to wrong information and hate President Yoon.”

In a surprising turn of events, President Yoon Seok Yeol, who declared martial law, was arrested on January 15 by the high-ranking public officials criminal investigation agency (CPIA) under charges of leading an insurrection. President Yoon is currently detained at the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, marking an unprecedented event in South Korea’s constitutional history where a sitting president has been incarcerated.
