Ku Hye Sun Calls Ahn Jae Hyun Cowardly Over Repeated Mentions Of Their Divorce On Several Broadcasts For The Past Several Years
Ku Hye Sun has made headlines for comments about her ex-husband Ahn Jae Hyun!
On the morning of August 8, Ku Hye Sun shared a lengthy statement on her social media, criticizing the repeated mention of her divorce from Ahn Jae hyun in news headlines.
“I don’t believe it’s ethical journalism to continually stamp and preserve the phrase ‘five years since divorce’ in headlines, turning it into a permanent label.”
Ku explained that during their divorce process, conflicting claims were made, and they ultimately agreed not to pursue the truth of those claims.
“While it may not have been a genuine reconciliation, it was at least an unspoken agreement and a matter of human decency. Divorce is a selfish and difficult process, as both sides insist they were the ones harmed.”
Despite their divorce having been far from amicable, Ku said she found it cowardly for her ex-husband; still working in the same industry; to make ongoing indirect or ambiguous comments that could be traced back to her, even if delivered as jokes. She said, “These repeated, indirect remarks, where someone in the same industry makes comments that hint at me, skirting between serious and joking, are cowardly.”
She added that entertainment programs and interviewers who encourage such remarks, or offer “comfort” in a way that reopens wounds, were engaging in “secondary harm” to her as the person involved.
“I hope variety shows have a sense of conscience. Even if it’s just a joke for fun, if the person concerned feels enough discomfort, it should stop immediately. I sincerely wish my ex-husband success through his own identity and authenticity—not by using me as a topic.”
Ahn Jae hyun has previously spoken both directly and indirectly about his feelings after the divorce in various broadcasts.
Ku Hye sun married Ahn Jae hyun in 2016 and divorced in 2020. Since then, she has been active in acting, directing, composing, and writing.
