Beloved Korean Actor Reveals Why He Hasn’t Gotten Married Yet, “I Don’t Have Money”
Beloved actor Kwak Si Yang has shared his honest thoughts on marriage!
On the most recent episode of the MBC variety show Radio Star, Kwak Si Yang made an appearance.
During the show, Kwak Si Yang revealed that he recently played a villain in the SBS drama Good Partner. He said, “My appearance as a villain helped boost the ratings a little. I also received a lot of criticism on Instagram, with comments like ‘How can you be a person?’ and insults about my character. But I found that attention interesting and was thankful for it.”
However, he also had to apologize in response to viewers’ demands. He explained, “I posted an apology on Instagram as they requested.”
Kwak Si Yang also revealed that he was a former trainee at SM Entertainment. He shared, “I practiced with Heechul of Super Junior. Back then, I didn’t even know what I wanted to do, and it was just a time when I showed up for work.”
He continued, “Then, after I went to the military, I watched dramas like Secret Garden and The Greatest Love, and I decided that I wanted to pursue acting. After being discharged, I joined an acting agency and auditioned a lot. I must have auditioned over 100 times.”
Kwak Si Yang also revealed that he once fell in love while doing a variety show. He shared, “When I was a newcomer, I appeared on We Got Married. I was paired with Kim So Yeon.” He mentioned the MBC virtual marriage program, We Got Married, and explained, “When filming with Kim So Yeon, I felt butterflies in my chest. At that time, I was a newcomer, and she was a beautiful senior. We filmed the ‘married life’ for about a year. On the last filming day, it felt like breaking up with a real partner. I even cried while filming. But shortly after the show ended, I saw an article about her getting married.” In reality, Kim So Yeon married Lee Sang Woo in 2017.
Kwak Si Yang also shared his thoughts on marriage. He said, “I want to get married quickly. But the reality is that I don’t have money. I’ve just paid off the debt I had at home. I’m the youngest in my family, and my parents are quite ill. Medical bills turned out to be more than I expected. So, I want to show them that I’m living happily.”
He also discussed his ideal relationship style, saying, “I like to listen to the other person and be led. There aren’t many things I want to take the lead on.. If I go on a honeymoon, I want to go on the Santiago pilgrimage. It might not be suitable for women, and they might struggle with it.”
Meanwhile, Kwak Si Yang acknowledged dating Im Hyun Joo in September 2023. During an interview for the release of the movie The Chase for Life in August 2023, he mentioned, “I do think about marriage with Im Hyun Joo.” However, he added, “Since it’s not just my position, but also hers, I’m being cautious about what I say.” Im Hyun Joo also attended the movie premiere at that time. However, the two confirmed their breakup in November 2023.
