Actor Lim Sung Jae gained 10kg for “Law and the City.”

On August 13, in the afternoon, at a location in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Lim Sung Jae met with Newsen and conducted a wrap-up interview for tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Law and the City.”

“Law and the City,” which ended on the 10th, depicted the joys, sorrows, and growth stories of five associate lawyers (lawyers employed at a law firm and receiving a salary) who go to work every day in Seocho-dong’s legal district. The final episode recorded a nationwide Nielsen Korea rating of 7.7%, marking its highest rating and ending on a high note.

In the drama, Lim Sung Jae played Ha Sanggi, an associate lawyer at the law firm Hojun, who believes that money is the most important thing.

“Law and the City” received much love for the perfect chemistry of its five associate lawyers, played by Lee Jong Suk, Moon Ga Young, Kang Yoo Seok, Ryu Hye Young, and Lim Sung Jae. When asked about his teamwork with the cast, Lim Sung Jae said, “The actors got along really well, and outside of the drama, we talked a lot about our personal lives. That’s how good our chemistry was. Since we are all actors, it could have been uncomfortable talking about the project, but it wasn’t at all. We were so comfortable that the problem was we laughed too much,” he expressed with satisfaction.

One of the other fun points of the drama was the dining scenes featuring the five associate lawyers in almost every episode. Joking that he “worried about diabetes,” Lim Sung Jae explained, “Before this, I had lost weight to look nice, but I had to gain it back in a short period of time. I aimed to gain 12kg but ended up gaining 10kg. Still, I thought it was fortunate that I could eat happily. I already have diabetes, so when I eat a lot, my blood sugar spikes. The numbness in my hands and feet was the most painful part. I even told the actors to eat mainly vegetables, keeping diabetes in mind.”

When asked if he had any skills for eating well, Lim Sung Jae replied, “I’ve always been a good eater, so there’s no special skill. Sanggi wasn’t supposed to look neat on screen—he had to eat heartily. If there’s a trick, it’s that when you put the spoon in your mouth and make a ‘hap’ sound, it makes you look like you’re eating deliciously. That’s a tip I picked up in daily life,” he said, making people laugh.
