Lee Chae Min and Roh Yoon Seo to Star in New Time-Loop Romance “My Reason to Die”
Two actors representing the MZ generation are teaming up for a story about two young people trying to protect each other through repeating time.
tvN’s new drama “My Reason to Die” (written by Kim Sol Ji / directed by Choi Jung Kyu and Kim Hee Won / produced by Studio Dragon, Media Group Take Two, Red Nine Pictures, and Big Ocean ENM) is based on the popular Naver webtoon of the same name by writer YUJU.
The series is a time-loop youth romance that follows Cha Gyeol, a man trapped in an endless time loop as he tries to save the woman he loves, and Nam Ji O, a woman fighting against fate to protect her own life. It’s expected to deliver a fresh kind of emotional impact, capturing everything from the flutter of first love to growth, sacrifice, and deep longing for the person you love.
Direction is being co-helmed by director Choi Jung Kyu, known for “The East Palace” and “The Devil Judge,” and director Kim Hee Won, recognized for his stylish direction on “Vincenzo,” “Little Women,” and “Queen of Tears.” Writer Kim Sol Ji is joining the project as well to round out a delicately crafted youth melodrama.
Lee Chae Min plays Cha Gyeol, a man who repeats death and rebirth again and again to save the person he loves. Cha Gyeol comes across as warm and affectionate one moment, then suddenly turns cold and distant the next — his unpredictable mood and unusual depth for his age are what end up shaking Nam Ji O’s heart.
Carrying wounds from childhood, Cha Gyeol first dares to dream of happiness after meeting Nam Ji O, but after losing her, he’s caught in a fate that repeats the same spring over and over. Following “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty,” Lee Chae Min once again leads a tvN series, and he’s expected to show a new side of himself through deeper emotional expression and heartbreaking, devoted love.
Roh Yoon Seo transforms into Nam Ji O, a promising taekwondo athlete with her sights set on an Olympic gold medal. Nam Ji O is a positive character who refuses to give up on her dreams even in difficult circumstances, a “K-eldest daughter” type whose strong sense of responsibility and bright energy give strength to those around her.
But after an unexpected injury puts her dream at risk, meeting Cha Gyeol brings a new turning point into her life. Having portrayed youth across a range of projects including “Crash Course in Romance,” the film “20th Century Girl,” “Hear Me: Our Summer,” and the Netflix series “The East Palace,” Roh Yoon Seo is expected to show an even more mature side of her acting through Nam Ji O.
Notably, Lee Chae Min and Roh Yoon Seo are reuniting on screen for the first time in about three years since “Crash Course in Romance.” The two will play lovers who cross the line between life and death for each other, bringing a new kind of youth chemistry that blends butterflies with heartache.
The production team said, “‘My Reason to Die’ is a story about two young people’s love as they try to protect each other across time,” adding, “We hope you look forward to the delicate emotional performances and special chemistry Lee Chae Min and Roh Yoon Seo will bring.”
Meanwhile, tvN’s “My Reason to Die” is set to be released in 2027.
