Famous Hallyu Actor Denies Tax Evasion Accusations After An Audit Imposes An Additional 900 Million Won, Agency Explains
Actor Lee Joon Gi has denied allegations that he deliberately omitted taxes after reportedly undergoing a tax audit and receiving a notice for additional tax payments amounting to billions of won.
On the 19th of March, his agency, Namoo Actors, released a statement explaining that the additional income tax imposed as a result of the audit was due to “differences in interpretation and application of tax laws between tax representatives and the tax authorities.”
The agency further clarified, “Aside from differences in perspectives regarding corporate tax and income tax application, there were no indications of tax evasion or underreporting related to Lee Joon Gi.”
Additionally, the agency stated, “This issue was not pointed out during regular tax audits conducted in 2015 and 2019. In response, we have filed an appeal with the Tax Tribunal to review the decision, and the case is currently under review.”
Lee Joon Gi recently underwent a tax audit by the Gangnam Tax Office and was reportedly notified of an additional tax payment of approximately 900 million won [around $612,618].
