Lee Jun Ho and Hong Hwa Yeon to Star in tvN’s New Drama About a Secret Embassy for Non-Human Beings
Actors Lee Jun Ho and Hong Hwa Yeon have been confirmed as the leads of tvN’s new drama, tentatively known in English as “Embassy for Foreign Monsters in Korea.”
The drama follows what happens after a human diplomat is mistakenly assigned to the embassy — a mysterious diplomatic post from “Iguk,” a nation whose name uses the character for “different,” where non-human beings such as haetae, mermaids, and gumiho live. The embassy exists to help these beings coexist peacefully alongside humans, without disruption.
The series is planned by writer Shin Ha Eun, known for “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” and “Love Next Door,” and helmed by director Bae Hyun Jin, who co-directed “Big Mouth” and “Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow,” and directed “Hierarchy.”
Lee Jun Ho, often dubbed a “romance master,” takes on the role of Cha Yeon, the head of the world’s most mysterious embassy and a dragon being. As a water deity who governs water, he’s soft and calm one moment and fiercely turbulent the next. Having lived on this land for over a thousand years, he undergoes a shift in his emotions after meeting a human. It’s a notably different turn for Lee Jun Ho, who has led romance dramas like “The Red Sleeve” and “King the Land,” marking his first role playing a non-human character.
Hong Hwa Yeon plays Go Mi U, the human rookie diplomat. A former archery gold medalist at the Asian Games, she’s the “human rookie diplomat” assigned to the embassy, a place humans normally cannot enter. Known for projects like “Buried Hearts,” “Tastefully Yours,” and “The Price of Confession,” Hong Hwa Yeon is taking on the challenge of becoming the industry’s next “rom-com queen.”
