Famous Actress Explains And Apologizes After Getting Backlash For Social Media Post

Actress Lee Min Jung faced criticism from fans after sharing updates from Venice, and has since apologized and explained the photo.

Lee Min Jung recently traveled to Venice with her husband, actor Lee Byung Hun, the lead in the Venice Film Festival competition entry “Out of Necessity.” In Venice, she toured with Son Ye Jin, another lead actress in the film, and a photo taken by Son Ye Jin sparked controversy on social media.

The controversial photo shows Lee Min Jung posing with her bag in front of a crucifix inside a cathedral.

After seeing the picture, many netizens both in Korea and abroad commented, “Posing with a bag advertisement in front of the crucifix… regardless of religion, it’s shameful as a Korean,” and “It doesn’t seem right to use a sacred place as indirect promotion for a bag.”

In response to the backlash the photos generated, Lee Min Jung edited the post caption to explain the location she posted from and to apologize in case anyone felt discomfort by her actions. She said, “P.S: Ah, and this place is not a cathedral, but rather an event hall and restaurant in a hotel that preserved the walls of a cathedral from hundreds of years ago. I am a Christian, not a Catholic, but if I caused any discomfort by taking photos on the altar, I sincerely apologize!!! I will be more careful and mindful in the future!!!!”
