Lee Min Ki Addresses Recent Tax Investigation And Additional Tax Payments
Actor Lee Min Ki’s agency has released an official statement regarding the recent tax investigation and additional tax payment controversy surrounding the actor.
On May 20, his agency Sangyoung ENT stated, “We sincerely apologize for causing concern to many people because of this matter.” The agency added, “Since his debut, Lee Min Ki has always complied with tax laws and faithfully fulfilled his tax obligations. During the recent tax investigation process, he also transparently submitted all related materials and cooperated sincerely with the investigation.”
Earlier reports claimed that the National Tax Service conducted intensive tax audits not only on fellow Sangyoung ENT actor Lee Yi Kyung but also on Lee Min Ki. According to industry insiders, the Seoul Regional Tax Office reportedly investigated both actors around March and April and imposed large additional tax payments.
Attention especially focused on the fact that Lee Min Ki established and operated a one-man agency called “MMORY” in Seoul’s Gwangjin District in 2021 despite already being signed under Sangyoung ENT. In 2023, the company’s address was reportedly moved to the same building as his current agency.
Regarding this, the agency explained, “The results of this tax investigation stemmed from differences in interpretation between the tax authorities and our company regarding standards for processing corporate expenses.”
They further emphasized, “There was absolutely no intentional income concealment or illegal tax evasion,” adding that the company respects the National Tax Service’s findings and has already paid the imposed taxes in full according to the required procedures.
The agency concluded by saying, “We will more thoroughly review our tax and accounting management systems to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future. We will continue to faithfully fulfill our tax obligations while complying with the law and principles.”
Meanwhile, Lee Min Ki is preparing to star in the upcoming drama “Grim Reaper Life Extension Project” alongside MONSTA X’s Hyungwon.
