The Popular Korean Actor Who Graduated Seoul National University 13 Years Later Due To A Senior Actor’s Words
Popular actor Lee Sang Yoon revealed that he decided to graduate from Seoul National University after 13 years, influenced by senior actor Lee Soon Jae.
On the April 13 broadcast of ENA’s Choi Hwa Jung and Kim Ho Young’s I Missed You, Park Geun Hyung and Lee Sang Yoon appeared, showing off a strong friendship that goes beyond senior-junior relations in acting.
Lee Sang Yoon, who majored in Physics at Seoul National University, said, “I took on this career without having graduated, but trying to do both while not doing either properly didn’t seem to make sense. From my point of view, if I wanted to focus on one thing, I had to give up the other. Since I wanted to continue acting, I thought I had to give up on my studies.”
He continued, “My parents thought that having a diploma meant I could at least do something with it later, so they had a hard time accepting it when I said I would give it up. I told them I understood their perspective, but I wanted to act, and I felt like I had to choose acting,” confessing that he had conflicts with his parents over his graduation.
Lee Sang Yoon said, “At that time, I was in a drama with senior Lee Soon Jae, and he asked me, ‘Did you graduate?’ I said, ‘I didn’t,’ and he told me, ‘You should graduate.’ I thought, ‘All elders think the same.’ Then the teacher said, ‘Seeing something through to the end is very important. Finishing something matters. People who finish and those who don’t are different. Completing it will be good for you.’ I was completely convinced by that advice, and that’s why I graduated.”
He revealed that he eventually graduated from Seoul National University in 2013, 13 years after enrolling, thanks to the influence of Lee Soon Jae.
In response, Park Geun Hyung said, “It took me 40 years to graduate. I entered Chung-Ang University’s Theater and Film Department right after it was founded, but I couldn’t graduate because I was so busy that I kept skipping semesters. Then I was expelled, but I was reinstated in 1999 and finally graduated in 2000,” surprising everyone.
