One Of The Biggest Korean Veteran Actors, Lee Soon Jae, Passes Away
Actor Lee Soon Jae has passed away.
According to the bereaved family on the 25th of November, Lee Soon Jae passed away early this morning. He was 91 years old.
Despite his advanced age, Lee Soon Jae continued to carry out active acting activities across broadcasts, films, and theater. Until recently, he appeared in the play “Waiting for Godot While Waiting,” and the KBS2 drama “Dog Knows Everything,” continuing vigorous activities.
Born in 1934 in Hoeryong, North Hamgyong Province, he moved to Seoul at the age of 4 with his grandparents. His registered year of birth is 1935.
As an actor, Lee Soon Jae had already established an unrivaled position, but he constantly expanded his acting spectrum. In the sitcoms “High Kick!” (2006) and “High Kick Through the Roof” (2009), which he appeared in during his 70s, he put down his previous stern image and received great love for his comedic acting.
He also worked in politics. In the 14th general election in 1992, he ran as the candidate of the then-ruling Democratic Liberal Party in Jungnang-gap, Seoul, and was elected. During his term as a member of the National Assembly, he served as the party’s deputy spokesperson and as the secretary of the Korea–Japan Parliamentarians’ Union.
The deceased became surrounded by speculation about health issues since the end of last year. He canceled performance schedules for the play “Waiting for Godot While Waiting,” and was also unable to attend the 37th Korea PD Awards ceremony held in April this year.
