Netizen Who Falsely Attempted To Expose Famous Korean Actor, Issues Apologies, Says They Got Carried Away
Actor Lee Yi Kyung was caught up in a private life rumor that began with an exposé by a netizen identified as A, but it has been revealed to be false.
On the 20th of October, netizen A posted an exposé about Lee Yi Kyung’s private life on their blog. The post, whose authenticity had not been verified, spread rapidly across various online communities and social media platforms. Lee Yi Kyung’s agency stated, “We plan to take all necessary actions after assessing the extent of both direct and indirect damages caused by the spread of false information,” but the rumors continued to spread uncontrollably.
In particular, netizen A continued to upload screenshots of messenger conversations and other content on their blog, insisting that their claims were true.
Even after the original posts were deleted, the provocative chat contents kept spreading, and A moved to X (formerly Twitter) to continue their exposé.
However, two days later, A suddenly posted an apology, saying, “At first, I started the post as a joke and didn’t expect it to gain that much attention. But as I kept writing and using AI photos, I think I gradually began to believe it myself.”
A continued, “I’m truly sorry for spreading malicious rumors about actor Lee Yi Kyung. It started out of fandom affection, but I became more emotionally involved. What began as something done for fun eventually felt real, and I now feel guilty about it. If there’s any part I need to take responsibility for, I will.”
Although the explicit rumor about Lee Yi Kyung’s private life was proven false within two days, some netizens still have not withdrawn their suspicions, saying things like, “Maybe they settled it with money,” “Then how did they get the selfies Lee Yi Kyung supposedly sent?” and “It doesn’t seem that easy to fake with AI.”
As an actor and TV personality known for his bright and positive energy on many shows, this incident has caused significant damage to Lee Yi Kyung’s public image. Fans have also expressed their support, saying, “He must have suffered a lot mentally,” “Shake it off and stay strong,” “That person is truly awful, please sue them,” and “I can’t understand how a so-called fan could do something like that.”
