Actress Moon Geun Young has secretly married musical actor Jung Pyung, who is seven years her senior, drawing a wave of congratulations from her colleagues in the industry and from fans.

According to News1 reporting on July 29, Moon Geun Young recently married Jung Pyung, whom she had been dating for a long time, in a private ceremony. The two, longtime fellow actors, built their relationship on years of mutual understanding and deep trust before ultimately deciding to marry.

Even those closest to them reportedly had no idea the two were dating, as they quietly supported each other’s work while their relationship grew. Rather than a formal wedding, the two held a simple meal with family in place of a ceremony, and did not publicly announce the marriage to those around them either.

Jung Pyung, born in 1980, is seven years older than Moon Geun Young, who was born in 1987. He debuted in 2007 and has been active as a musical and stage actor ever since.

Notably, Jung Pyung was also part of Bachi, a creative collective that Moon Geun Young led as director. Bachi is a community centered on free creative work including acting and directing, with actors Ahn Seung Kyun and Hong Sa Bin among its core members alongside Moon Geun Young and Jung Pyung. Jung Pyung also has a connection to Moon Geun Young and Ahn Seung Kyun through the tvN drama “Catch the Ghost,” which he also appeared in.

News of Moon Geun Young and Jung Pyung’s private marriage first became public through News1’s exclusive report on the morning of July 29. Following the report, Moon Geun Young shared her feelings about the marriage in a handwritten letter posted to her Instagram that same day.

In the letter, Moon Geun Young wrote, “I wanted to let you know that I’m getting married,” adding, “I met someone I want to walk alongside on the path I used to walk alone, someone I want to share the time I used to spend worrying by myself with, someone who can make me laugh even over the smallest things.” She continued, “That’s how I’ve decided to take on the road ahead, not alone, but as two.”

Moon Geun Young also wrote, “Please offer congratulations and encouragement rather than worry,” and added, “I’ll live even harder to match all the support you’ve given me.”

Congratulations poured in following the news. Coyote’s Shinji wrote, “Congratulations, our Geun Young,” while actor Kim Ho Young also shared, “Congratulations, Geun Young.” Fans left comments including “Congratulations,” “Sending you all my blessings,” “May you only walk a path of happiness,” “I hope your life is filled with nothing but happy moments from here on,” “Always cheering for you,” and “Congratulations on the marriage of our eternal nation’s little sister.”

Now settled into married life, Moon Geun Young continues to stay active with the support of her husband, Jung Pyung. She recently took the stage for the play “Orphans” and appeared on tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block.” She also just wrapped filming on director Yeon Sang Ho’s new project “Yeto,” reuniting with him after Netflix’s “Hellbound” Season 2 (2024).

Moon Geun Young, born in May 1987, is currently 39 years old. She debuted with the 1999 film “On the Road” and rose to fame as the “nation’s little sister” with roles in works including “Autumn in My Heart” (2000), “Empress Myeongseong” (2001), “A Tale of Two Sisters” (2003), and “My Little Bride” (2004). At just 21, she won the grand prize at the 2008 SBS Drama Awards for “The Painter of the Wind,” and she also captivated audiences with a powerful presence in “Hellbound” Season 2 in 2024. This year, she took the stage in the play “Orphans,” continuing to showcase acting skills that have only deepened over the years.
