Actor Namgoong Min has responded to the criticism surrounding his newest comeback drama “Our Movie”!

On June 15, Namgoong Min took to his personal social media to address the negative headlines about the drama’s low ratings. He shared a screenshot of a critical article and wrote, “Despite the provocative headline, I see that the reporter actually watched our drama. Thank you very much.” He continued, “Even with the current low ratings, I am very confident.”

He then added, “So, I ask that you simply give us your attention until episode 5. If by then there’s still no noticeable rebound, feel free to criticize me even more harshly — it will be my responsibility.”

“Our Movie”, which premiered on June 13 on SBS, tells the love story of Jae-ha, a film director with no future, and Da-eum, an actress who feels that today might be her last chance. The drama debuted with a solid 4.2% nationwide viewership rating for its first episode, but dropped to 3.0% for its second episode.

While ratings in the 4% aren’t exactly uncommon for Korean broadcasting channels these days, they are more so rare for SBS weekend dramas. The drama that aired before “Our Movie”, “The Haunted Palace,” always scored ratings in the 8 to 10% range, which is normal for an SBS weekend drama. SBS weekend dramas are also notably known for being immensely good and for attracting a lot of audiences because of their prime time slot.

This made the somewhat high drop in ratings in its premiere episodes even more notable. Additionally, Namgoong Min dramas usually do very well in ratings, so “Our Movie” ratings came as an even bigger surprise to fans.

While viewers have speculated various reasons for the ratings drop, Namgoong Min remains optimistic, asking fans to wait until episode 5 to fairly judge the series. Attention is now on whether “Our Movie” will rebound in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, “Our Movie” airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM KST on SBS.

Have you seen it yet? Do you think it deserves the low ratings?
