Netflix Addresses Release Schedule Of Cha Eun Woo’s “The Wonderfools” After Premiere Date Reports Spread Online
Netflix commented on the release schedule of “The Wonderfools,” starring Cha Eun Woo, who is facing tax evasion allegations.
On the 11th of February, Netflix stated, “The release date being May 15 has never been confirmed.” The release timing of “The Wonderfools” was previously announced as the second quarter of this year through a Netflix lineup announcement event. Other than that, the exact release date or related schedules such as a production presentation, have not yet been decided.
“The Wonderfools” is a superpower comic action adventure about ordinary neighborhood misfits who unexpectedly gain superpowers due to an incident in 1999, when apocalyptic beliefs were widespread, and fight against villains threatening the peace of Haeseong City. Alongside Cha Eun Woo, Park Eun Bin, Cha Eun Woo, Choi Dae Hoon, Lim Sung Jae, Kim Hae Sook, and Son Hyun Joo were announced as part of the cast.
In particular, director Yoo In Sik of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” took on directing duties, raising expectations for a reunion with Park Eun Bin. However, as tax evasion allegations surrounding Cha Eun Woo recently surfaced, no position has been conveyed regarding whether or when the project will be released. In the drama, Cha Eun Woo plays Lee Woon Jung, a specially recruited public official in Haeseong City who tracks a serial disappearance case.
Previously, the Seoul Regional Tax Office conducted a high-intensity tax investigation on Cha Eun Woo in the first half of last year and notified him of additional income taxes exceeding 20 billion won.
After the tax evasion controversy broke on the 22nd of January, the agency said it would “actively explain the situation through legal procedures.” However, as advertisers began deleting promotional content related to Cha Eun Woo and public criticism became overwhelming, Cha Eun Woo, currently serving in the military, issued his own statement and apology on social media just four days later.
Additionally, the agency has since issued a 2nd statement to address the issue. Cha Eun Woo is currently awaiting the result of a pre-assessment review.
