Netflix To Push Ahead With Its Series Release Despite Cha Eun Woo’s Ongoing Controversy
Its been confirmed that the Netflix series “Wonderfools” is scheduled to be released in the second quarter of this year, despite its main actor, Cha Eun Woo’s ongoing controversy.
Recently, Netflix stated, ““Wonderfools”release in the second quarter of this year has not changedWe will provide further guidance on the release date and other major schedules once they are finalized.”
“Wonderfools” is a superpower comic action adventure set in 1999, when apocalyptic beliefs were widespread. It follows a group of clumsy neighborhood residents who gain superpowers through an unexpected incident and fight villains threatening the peace of Haeseong City.
Previously, Netflix had announced that “Wonderfools” would be released in the second quarter of this year. Cha Eun Woo played the lead role, completing filming before enlisting in the military.
However, recent speculation arose that Cha Eun Woo’s tax evasion allegations could affect the release schedule of the drama. Previously, the Seoul Regional Tax Office conducted a high-intensity tax investigation on Cha Eun Woo in the first half of last year and notified him of additional income taxes exceeding 20 billion won [around $13,301,146].
After the tax evasion controversy broke on the 22nd of January, the agency said it would “actively explain the situation through legal procedures.” However, as advertisers began deleting promotional content related to Cha Eun Woo and public criticism became overwhelming, Cha Eun Woo, currently serving in the military, issued his own statement and apology on social media just four days later.
Additionally, the agency has since issued a 2ndstatement to address the issue. Cha Eun Woo is currently awaiting the result of a pre-assessment review.
